Are my test results reviewed by a GP?

Yes, all test results are reviewed by a doctor and they will provide advice based on your results.

Please note, our tests are for people who wish to explore their health. We will recommend you speak to your own GP if any of the results suggest further investigation is necessary.

Do you have an app?

Yes, you will need to download and log in to the app to access your results. It is available for both iOS and Android devices.

We’ve created an easy-to-use dashboard that allows you to get a clear and accurate picture of your health. We use graphics so you can easily identify biomarkers that are within or out of range, and by how much. You will receive comments, feedback, and guidance from one of our GPs via the app.

The app also lets you track your results over time. You can see how your stats are changing between each test and better track your health and progression.

How much does a test cost?

The cost of the tests varies depending on the biomarkers being tested. The cost from the lab varies considerably from one to another. This is reflected in the price you will see on the website.

How accurate are the tests?

We use two highly respected and UKAS accredited UK independent providers that specialise in pathology laboratory services to clinicians (GPs and specialists), hospitals, community health services, and their patients.

Their pathology and laboratory services form an essential component of modern healthcare services, backed up by comprehensive quality standards accreditation across a wide range of disciplines.

The labs are both committed to providing pathology of the highest quality. The quality of results is of fundamental importance, and the laboratories operate to stringent technical and administrative standards.

The U.K. Accreditation Service (UKAS) provides accreditation to the internationally recognised ISO 15189 Medical Laboratories: Requirements for Quality and Competence standard. Results are subjected to strict internal and external quality control.

Where do the samples get analysed?

All finger prick samples are analysed by The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) and all phlebotomy samples are analysed by Nationwide Pathology. Both are UKAS accredited, independent providers of routine and highly specialised diagnostic laboratory services.

Quality assurance is achieved by strict adherence to standard operating procedures for all analytical processes. Both labs participate in recognised National External Quality Assessment Schemes; which are schemes subscribed to by NHS and private laboratories.

Are there any risks or side effects associated with these tests?

For the finger prick test, as long as you follow the instructions included in your kit, or demonstrated [here](https://www.exploremyhealth.co.uk//page/how-to-take-a-test), there are minimal risks or side effects associated with these tests. Some people find their finger becomes a little sore but, should this happen, it will only last for a few days.

For the phlebotomy test, the majority of people experience minimal side effects. However, here are a few that can be experienced during or after a blood draw.

Bruising

When a blood sample is taken, a small hole remains from the needle’s entry into your vein, possibly resulting in some minor bruising, occasionally the bruising can be a little more significant but very rarely of any concern. You can minimize bruising by applying firm pressure to the test area after sample collection. Using an ice pack can alleviate swelling and pain. Elevating the affected arm above heart level may also help. While hematoma isn’t dangerous and typically resolves on its own, it can be painful and unsightly for 1-2 weeks after the test. In rare cases, hematoma infection may occur.

Infection

Infection, although less common than bruising or hematoma, can occur when the needle creates a small opening in the skin, potentially allowing bacteria to cause a skin infection. If you observe redness around the test site in the days following the blood test, it’s advisable to consult a doctor for assessment of a possible infection.

Pain

Mild discomfort is typical post-blood test. Occasionally, it can be more severe, especially if nearby tendons and nerves are inadvertently affected during needle insertion. Most often, this discomfort subsides on its own. If it persists or worsens, consult your doctor.

Fainting

Dizziness during the procedure is common. If you’ve experienced it before, inform the phlebotomist in advance, and they’ll have you lie down while drawing your sample. Fainting occurs when blood vessels relax, leading to blood pooling in the leg veins and reduced oxygen flow to the brain. If you feel faint or dizzy during the procedure, promptly notify the phlebotomist. They may instruct you to sit, lie down, or even raise your legs to improve blood flow to the brain and alleviate faintness.

What's included in the test kit?

For tests carried out by a phlebotomist, either at home or in a clinic, you won’t receive a test kit, the medical professional will supply everything required.

How easy is a finger prick blood test?

For most people, it is relatively easy and quick for them to collect blood using a finger prick test as long as they follow the instructions. Make sure you watch our video [here](https://www.exploremyhealth.co.uk//page/how-to-take-a-test) and read our useful tips:

- Stay hydrated – drink a large glass of water about an hour before taking your test
- Warm your hands – this ensures good blood flow to your fingers before taking your sample
- Don’t squeeze too hard
- Check you have the right amount – fill the sample container to the upper line
- Post your sample – it’s important to return your sample on the same day as collection

Am I able to get a prescription?

As a health screening company, we are unable to offer prescriptions. Please speak to your GP for further advice regarding the issuing of prescriptions.

This depends on the test and your results. Many of our tests you may wish to repeat on a quarterly basis to check how your results are trending against lifestyle changes you’ve made. Some of the tests may be one-off tests to help reassure you at that particular time.

Can I change my order after purchase?
